We are a textiles production company based in New York City and Abidjan. Our Refined products bridge traditions and modernity. We specialize in wax printing, tie-dye and hand weaving. Other artisanal work we offer includes hand embroidery, beading, crocheting and hand painting on fabrics. We aim to place African textile craftsmanship in the luxury fashion market to create a truthful narrative about what “ MADE IN AFRICA” means today and to preserve textiles craftsmanship. EDUN
EDUN
Tie-Dye holds a long tradition in West Africa. Methods of tie-dyeing consist of folding, binding or painting freehand with starch. The fold, binding and starch resist the dye to produce patterns. Different methods and colors can be applied to create distinctive designs.

The traditional weaving technique in West Africa is called Strip weaving. A large numbers of thin strips of cloth are sewn together to produce a finished fabric. It is possible for us to work with broader vertical loom as well.

Hereby patterns are created by applying melted wax across the blank cloth. Afterwards, the cloth is soaked in dye, which is prevented from covering the entire cloth by the wax. If additional colors are required, the wax- and-soak process is repeated with new patterns.

The artisans paint or draw patterns directly to the fabrics or by applying melted wax across the blank cloth. Afterwards, the cloth is soaked in dye, which is prevented from covering the entire cloth by the wax. If additional colors are required, the wax- and-soak process is repeated with new patterns.
